S.<\/st1:country-region>, <st1:country-region w:st=\"on\">Canada<\/st1:country-region>, <st1:country-region w:st=\"on\">Germany<\/st1:country-region> and <st1:country-region w:st=\"on\"><st1:place w:st=\"on\">Spain<\/st1:place><\/st1:country-region> competing for the top prize. According to the DOE, the point of the competition is to make solar energy for homes cost competitive with electricity generated by fossil fuels by the year 2015.<\/font><\/p>\n<p><o:p><font face=\"Times New Roman\">\u00a0<\/font><\/o:p><\/p>\n<p style=\"margin: 0in 0in 0pt\" class=\"MsoNormal\"><font face=\"Times New Roman\">On the way to the National Mall in <st1:city w:st=\"on\">Washington<\/st1:city>, <st1:state w:st=\"on\">DC<\/st1:state>, the truck carrying <st1:place w:st=\"on\"><st1:placename w:st=\"on\">Santa Clara<\/st1:placename> <st1:placetype w:st=\"on\">University<\/st1:placetype><\/st1:place>\u2019s solar home broke down twice, creating a bit of anxiety and a time crunch for the students. Today\u2019s standings from first to fifth include <st1:state w:st=\"on\">Maryland<\/st1:state>, <st1:city w:st=\"on\">Darmstadt<\/st1:city>, <st1:city w:st=\"on\">Penn State<\/st1:city>, <st1:country-region w:st=\"on\">Georgia<\/st1:country-region> Tech and <st1:place w:st=\"on\"><st1:city w:st=\"on\">Montreal<\/st1:city><\/st1:place>.<\/font><\/p>\n<p><o:p><font face=\"Times New Roman\">\u00a0<\/font><\/o:p><\/p>\n<p style=\"margin: 0in 0in 0pt\" class=\"MsoNormal\"><font face=\"Times New Roman\">The final winners will be announced tomorrow and two-time defending champion <st1:place w:st=\"on\"><st1:placetype w:st=\"on\">University<\/st1:placetype> of <st1:placename w:st=\"on\">Colorado<\/st1:placename><\/st1:place> still hopes to make a come from behind bid to seal the deal on Friday.
