With the rise of the internet and advances in science, Green technology has never been so efficient. More of us than ever before are doing our bit to care for the planet, with the help of environmentally friendly technology. From wind turbines to recycling systems, creative innovations are being created each year. Making it easier to be kinder to our environment than ever before. But while we know that green technology is good for the planet, many of us still don’t know much else about it. This could be a reason why some people are still anxious about using it. Here are some interesting things you probably don’t know about green technology.

Wind turbines can help marine life

Believe it or not, wind turbines that are located out at sea, have been linked with helping marine life to flourish. When they are installed, large banks are created to offer support to the wind turbine. This helps it to stay upright and secure during storms and to withstand corrosion. These banks are often used by marine life for shelter and protection from predators. Scientists have found that the species who live in the banks have seen an increase in their numbers. This is due to the safety the wind turbines provide which makes the wildlife breed more frequently. Food is also easier to come by. This will have a knock-on effect for the whole food chain and will help other species to increase their numbers too.

Walking can generate energy

Walking is something all of us do on a daily basis and is considered one of the most environmentally friendly ways to travel. So it’s hardly surprising it is not being used in green technology. A number of green technology companies such as Pavegen are harnessing the energy generated by footsteps to provide power. They do this by using specially made floor tiles that harness the kinetic energy from our bodies to create electricity. It’s a simple concept but one that works effectively, while still being kind to the planet. These can be installed in homes, offices, and even pavements.

PV Solar panels can be recycled

As with most things, PV solar panels can get old and stop being as effective as they once were. But instead of throwing them away or pay to have them disposed of, many people don’t realize they can be recycled. Companies such as Recycle Solar, can repurpose and recycle your worn-out PV panels for free. This requires specialist handling as these solar panels contain small but potentially toxic metals. If left in landfills, this can cause a number of hazards. Recycling these panels through a specialist service prevents this from happening. So if you have PV solar panels at home, recycling them is always a more environmentally friendly option.

These are just a few surprising things about green technology that could come as a surprise to you. These innovations could help us reverse some of the damage we have caused. So why not find out what pieces of technology you can introduce into your life to benefit us all.
