That’s the cry from Cuba as the newly founded President Raul Castro has lifted the ban on flat screen TV’s, microwave ovens, DVD players, electric bikes and other electronic items.

The new lift on formerly restricted electronics is seen as progressive movement in Cuba and a way for citizens to feel that they have more control over their lives and purchasing power. Raul Castro has even invited farmers to use some of the government’s land on which to plant crops.

The first electric bike was sold in Havana for around $900, though most Cubans don’t have this kind of money, as the average earner receives just $17 per day. Even though prices are out of reach for the average Cuban, the costs for those who can afford them are far cheaper than buying products off the black market.

And, electric bikes are seen as a way to help the transportation system that has been lagging for so many years in the Communist country. Electric bikes open up transportation, motivation and recreation in a nation that has been oppressed and are a sign that real progress is being made.

Viva the <a

But, even though the Ikoo is high on funk it is also high on performance as well.

Made out of T304 stainless surgical steel, the Ikoo uses an EQuake S6 600w electric motor to propel riders at 18 mph for a maximum range of 18 miles. Touted as an urban bike that can handle some light off-road action as well, the Ikoo electric scooter uses dual disc brakes to slow down the action.

The recharge time is a respectable 4 – 6 hours as well as the price tag of around $999. Key ignition, meshed headlight, twist throttle and power gauge are standard features of the Ikoo. Rear view mirrors, extension seat and an anti-theft device are optional.

For less than one thousand bucks, you can find yourself zipping around city traffic, making runs to the grocery store and burning no gasoline whatsoever. Many customers have already said “I do” to Ikoo, now how about you?
<div

This light electric vehicle can travel 62 miles on batteries alone with a top speed limited to 30 mph so that one doesn’t have to get a motorcycle driver’s license to operate it.

In addition, if the rider wants to extend the range of the Matra MS1 then all they have to do is pedal. Besides being an ultra electric vehicle, the Matra MS1 is also a 9-speed bike as well.

Like any good hybrid vehicle, the Matra MS1 also comes with regenerative braking to help recharge the batteries. Recharging time on the Matra MS1 is estimated to be between 3 and 6 hours.

On the handlebars is an LED display that is the brains of the operation. The rider starts the vehicle by swiping a magnetic card through this device, which also tells the rider about how much of a charge is left on the battery. This is also an anti-theft option as a person without the card cannot operate the bike. Another security feature is the alarm, which is intended to deter would be thieves.

The bike, when it becomes available will cost around $5,000 so added security is essential. The Matra MS1 is also equipped with a set of LED lights for those who wish to travel at night.

Matra has been in the vehicle market for a while, designing cars for Renault and racing at Le Mans and in Formula 1 & 2 events. Matra, however, has gotten out of the car business and is now focused on creating green vehicles that everyone can ride and drive.

Though the Matra MS1 isn’t cheap, it certainly is a very green vehicle that will get you out in the fresh air and serve most of your in-town travel needs. If you speak French, you can find out more at the <a
